How much does retail slip testing cost?

A transparent guide to retail slip testing pricing in the UK. Indicative starting prices for each format — every survey is scoped to a fixed written quote on enquiry.

What drives the cost of a retail slip test?

The cost of a retail slip survey is driven by four factors: the number of test points required, the size of the floor area, the complexity of contamination assumptions, and whether out-of-hours access is required. Most single-store surveys fall in the £395–£750 range. Multi-site programmes — typically commissioned by retail groups, asset managers and FM contractors — start from £350 per store for groups of 5 or more.

What's always included

  • BS 7976-2 pendulum slip testing in dry and wet (contaminated) conditions, using the appropriate slider for retail customer-facing surfaces.
  • Surface roughness (Rz) measurement on smooth surfaces where pendulum results alone could mislead.
  • Photographic and locational evidence at every test point.
  • UKAS-endorsed report within five working days, with the UKAS Lab № 7933 endorsement mark accepted in court.
  • Independent corrective recommendations — we don't sell flooring or anti-slip treatments.

Why our prices are higher than some alternatives

Our pricing reflects the cost of operating a UKAS-accredited testing laboratory — annual UKAS surveillance audits, traceably calibrated equipment, validated methodology and technically competent personnel. A non-accredited "pendulum survey" can be cheaper because it skips these costs. The trade-off is that a non-accredited report is fragile under cross-examination and may be rejected by insurers and the courts.

For a £40,000 retail public-liability claim, the difference between an accredited and a non-accredited slip report often determines the outcome. The £100–£200 saving on a non-accredited survey is rarely good economics.

Out-of-hours and emergency testing

We offer out-of-hours scheduling — overnight or weekend — for retail premises that cannot be tested during trading hours. Out-of-hours testing typically attracts a 25% surcharge on the daytime rate. Emergency post-incident testing (within 48 hours of an incident) is available with priority scheduling at a 50% surcharge.

Multi-site programmes

For groups testing 5+ retail sites, we offer programme pricing that consolidates scoping, scheduling, reporting and invoicing across the portfolio. Typical multi-site retail programmes price from £350 per store and deliver consistent UKAS-accredited evidence at predictable per-site cost.
